The different opportunities to combine wireless communication links with DALI lighting control are now being formally investigated by DiiA, the global DALI industry alliance.
The DiiA Technical & Certification Work Group (T&C WG) has formed two new subgroups to investigate different options for combining wireless with DALI. DiiA expects that the subgroups will work in cooperation with the appropriate partner organizations.
At this stage, DiiA has not decided which option(s) and which protocol(s) will be supported in DALI-2.
The “Wireless Gateway” subgroup is discussing specifications for standardized application gateways between DALI-2 and existing wireless protocols such as Bluetooth mesh or Zigbee. For each chosen gateway, the subgroup will develop specifications to describe which commands and data will be supported across the interface. Tests will be developed to allow certification.
Meanwhile, the “Part 104 Wireless” subgroup is discussing the implementation of DALI-2 over wireless carriers such as Bluetooth mesh and UDP, in line with Part 104 of the DALI standard IEC 62386. This specification, which is not included in DALI-2 certification at present, uses the underlying wireless carrier to transport the DALI commands, and translation is not required. The subgroup will determine any additional requirements that are necessary to implement Part 104 for the chosen carriers, and tests will be developed to allow certification.
DiiA Regular members are invited to participate in all T&C WG activities, including the new Wireless subgroups.
