Judges' comments

The Winner of the Outdoor category in the DALI Lighting Awards 2021 is Shanghai Euchips Co. Ltd. for the overpass lighting scheme in Xi’an, a large city and capital of Shaanxi Province in central China.

A DALI-controlled lighting system, including around 10,000 LED drivers and other components, was installed on the fences and undersides of the bridges.

DALI enables accurate control of the on-off state, brightness and colour of the lights according to the flow of traffic at different times, or in response to different seasons and holidays.  The energy-efficient lighting scheme creates a colourful lighting atmosphere and a unique night-time scene for the city, while also improving safety for drivers.

Judges were impressed by the novel and low-glare lighting scheme to create a more welcoming space in the areas beneath the overpass.
